The only characters in this book I really liked were Henry Tilney and Eleanor Tilney. They're both so sweet to Catherine. Catherine is a fairly likable character, just a little bit empty-headed. I identify a bit with her, though, in that I would love to be like a heroine from my favorite novels!
Now that I'm finished with Northanger Abbey I'm back to Mr. Darcy's Diary. Other books that I want to read right now are Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, Sense and Sensiblity by Jane Austen, Persuasion by Jane Austen, and many more! I also want to read The Mysteries of Udolpho now after reading Northanger Abbey.
1. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
2. Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
3. Persuasion by Jane Austen
4. The Mirror of Her Dreams by Stephen R. Donaldson
5. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
6. The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray
7. A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle
8. Moonraker by Ian Fleming
Plus: Where did Henry go? He's so entertaining!
I'm glad it's Cesar Chavez day and I have no school. Now I can settle into the recliner and read for a few hours. Me no feel good. I have to find my medicine so I can take it. I forgot yesterday and ended up with a killer sinus headache.
The only good thing that came from not taking my meds yesterday was that I was up to watch a TV movie about Stephen Hawking on The Science Channel. It was really good. Stephen Hawking is amazing! And then a show about housecats came on afterward. I tried to watch but I fell asleep.
Tomorrow the cherry blossoms are supposed to bloom in Animal Crossing! I can't wait! And the Cherry Blossom festival at J-town is soon! I'm going to go this year! Sakura are so beautiful.
All right, time for reading! It's been so long since I just curled up with a good book, and Jane Austen books are awesome. And I'm now getting yelled at for not paying attention to the movie on LMN. My grandmother is addicted to Lifetime Movie Network, and I just don't get why these things are so popular. I want to watch Modern Marvels on the History Channel!
Where do you get recommendations for new books to read?
I work in a bookstore. Every month there's a new edition of Barnes and Noble recommends in the break room (and due to a funky person smellin' up the break room, I never go back there anymore.), and advance reader copies. I come across a lot of interesting books when I'm just walking through the store, clearing books off of tables.
I also just stand and read a LOT and browse. I eventually find stuff to read. My favorite place for tachiyomi is Kinokuniya. It's more fun to looks at books when I'm not at work. And Borders isn't as relaxing anymore cause there's one guy that works there that's always a bitch to me. BLergh.
I haven't read as much this summer as usual, but here's what I've read this summer:
- Pants on Fire (Meg Cabot)
- Jinx (Meg Cabot)
- The entire Harry Potter series (reread 1-6, then read 7. Best. Series. Ever.)
- Eclipse (Stephenie Meyer)
- The Year of Secret Assignments (Jaclyn Moriarty)
Yup. Not much at all. I read a bit of manga though. Just Hana Kimi, Lovely Complex, and Penguin Kakumei.
Next up on the reading list (other than textbooks >.< Kanji is going to kill me!)
- Stardust (Neil Gaiman)
- Queen of Babble in the Big City (Meg Cabot)
Last night my mother and I went grocery shopping hungry. I'm surprised that we didn't come home with very many bad foods. I got a horned melon to try...I hated it. We also got some jerk seasoning, and had some jerk steak today for dinner. With baked potato and green beans and baked beans. The steak turned out really good. I think tomorrow I'm going to use what's left of the uncooked steaks to make some curry.
I also find it funny that he'll start a paragraph saying all this crazy stuff happens, and then at the end he's all, "No, but this did happen." XD
I put Emma down for a little bit. Jane Austen books take me a while to read. I like them, but they just take me a while. I'm trying to read books with more substance. I mean, I love my fluff, but I need to broaden my er...range? I dunno. I was gonna say 'horizons' but I don't know if that's the right word. I'm trying to get out of my comfort zone. Read more than just fluff where the girl always gets the guy in the end (although I do love fluff).
Right box (clockwise from top left): Chocolate cake donut, Everybody's Nuts Pistachios, edamame, cherry and banana.
I'm very excited about this bento, I know it's gonna be tasty. I packed a lot of food because I open tomorrow, and I usually eat on my first 15, and during my lunch. But I'm saving that donut for dessert after lunch.
I also got a really great bento cookbook at Kinokuniya last week, called "gofun de dekita" it's a book in a series of five minute meals (gofun), but this one is all bento recipes. I'm going to try a recipe from it for my Sunday bento. The book is all in Japanese language, and my kanji reading skils are quite lacking, but the step by step photo instructions are most excellent.
It's so hot, and I have to be a hermit due to antibiotics making me sun sensitive. I went to the doc this morning and I have a freaking kidney infection. Now I can't drink on Thursday when I go bowling! Graaahhh!
I hate it when it's hotter than 70 degrees. My apartment doesn't have A/C. I'm just laying around reading Harry Potter and drinking water to deal with it. I wanted to go downtown to take a picture of a billboard I saw that said "I left my nuts in San Francisco", but I shall have to wait.
The SHS at school is such an interesting place to people watch. I was sitting there for an hour waiting for my lab test results so the doc could see me, so I watched people come in with their various ailments. One chick came in who was as red as a lobster. I felt so bad for her, sunburns suck ass.
Oh well, back to my water jug, bed, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
